The user market is an important parameter sent to the underlying Skyscanner services. It determines the set of agencies/partners that we query for results. Some of them are restricted per market, like the way a streaming partner may only allow certain movie titles to be available by country/region.
What happens if I have enabled Automatic Market Detection and my user’s unknown?
If we are unable to determine a market, our partners can opt-in for a default market detection. Additionally, we’ll have the functionality within the configuration engine to turn off the automatic market detection.
What if I want to enable Automatic Market Detection for my users and they’re using a VPN or a network that cannot be detected?
The service will serve up the most relevant market based on their IP, but they may be served another language or currency as a result. You can also just prevent automatic market detection by enabling a default market.
These behaviours can be changed all be changed, using the configuration engine (CE), which is currently available only for our inhouse engineers.
If you want to change which will be your default market if the user locating fails or skip the automatic user location entirely please raise a request to Business Support: https://support.business.skyscanner.net/hc/en-us/requests/new
